Adventurous Elopement in the Blue Ridge Mountains | Kat + Tim

Kathleen started out as one of our students on our cross-country workshop journey. She was a quick learner and immediately felt like a long-time friend. We stayed in touched after the workshop and I cannot properly explain how excited I was when she reached out about her intimate elopement in the Blue Ridge Mountains!

We began working together to come up with the best option for the elopement, including when and how they were going to get ready, where to say their vows, and how to make their day more intentional and unique. Kat and Tim chose to get ready together, at their home, surrounded by their pets and the feeling of comfort. We ended up hitting the local scene and stopping for some beers at their favorite brewery. It was a great way to celebrate who they truly are, and start their elopement with new traditions. Cheers!

From there we started to head up into the mountains! Our destination was Black Balsam Knob, a place we had scouted ahead and made arrangements with the local forest rangers, since it’s actually located in the Pisgah National Forest. Well the universe threw us some curveballs and on their exact elopement date, they decided to close the access road to our location. Figures! So plan B took place and it turned out to be pretty damn magical.

The road to Black Balsam was closed, and the hike would be too long… but instead of feeling disappointed, Kat and Tim embraced the adventure, put on their boots and packs, and we headed into the snowy unknown. Because the road was closed, we had the area to ourselves! One set of hikers passed us, along with a motorcyclist who clearly wiggled his way past the gates. Besides that, we had the area all to ourselves. The snow fell quietly, and the sense of wonder kicked in. We were alone in Pisgah National Forest, and the privacy Kat and Tim so desperately wanted for their elopement, was the easiest thing to obtain. We simply stopped when they felt like stopping, set up camp, and got those two married!

From there we drove slowly down the frozen mountain side, stopping for occasional photos with waterfalls and moss overlooks. It certainly wasn’t the experience we were expecting, but it was their story and this was just another unique aspect of it.

— From Kat

My husband and I decided to elope without any guests present other than an officiant, and we knew we wanted some amazing photos taken. I instantly thought of Going Home Co. because I knew Paige & Corey would be the type of couple that would make us feel so comfortable in front of the camera and allow us to focus on our one job - getting married! The day did not go to plan, with weather not on our side, but Paige & Corey kept their cool and rolled with the punches. Their "go with the flow" attitude totally put us at ease. They were down for just about any adventure! Our wedding ended up being everything we could have dreamed of and more.
